History Department was started with the establishment of the College in 1961.Dr.Subhrangshu Roychoudhury was appointed as the first lecturer in this Department who was also appointed as the Principal of the College and continued till his retirement on 31st January, 1996. Besides this Shri Surya Kanta Barpujari, Shri Namdev Sinha, Dr. Tushar kanti Dey are amongst the founder lecturers of this department. Currently the Department of History is running undergraduate program in History with core, minor, and interdisciplinary courses with more than eight hundred students total enrolment and many of the students from History Department got admission in Master degree course as well as progression to higher studies and many of them got placement in different sectors also .
