Department of English
Haflong Government College was established on September 4, 1961. Since then, the department of English has been a vital and integral part of the College. It is the umbrella department for all the streams, comprising of Arts, Science and Commerce. Shri A K Debnath joined as Vice Principal and Lecturer on the same date of the establishment of the College.He taught English for three years and left in 1966 to become Principal of another College. Shri K K Sinha served from 1963 till his transfer in 1966. Shri Ramayan Tiwari joined the College in 1965 and became Head of department till his retirement on 31-07-2000. Shri A K Debnath, Shri KK Sinha, Shri R Tiwari, Shri Deben Acharjee, Shri J L Choudhury, Shri S K Dey and Shri P S Mishra were the founder lecturers of the department. Apart from the founder lecturers, Dr.Thangkim Haolai, Mrs. Renu Mahajan Gupta, Mrs. Tandra Borbora and Mrs. Suranjana Roy Choudhury had also served in the department.
Honours course was introduced in 1976. The total number of sanctioned posts are eight of which two are lying vacant.
