Department of Philosophy was established in the year 1961. Professor R Sundara Rajan, Bhagavan Chandra Deva Goswami, Subodh Dey and Hena Chowdhury were some of the founder teachers of this department. Currently the Department of Philosophy is running undergraduate programme in philosophy with core, minor and interdisciplinary courses with more than four hundred total enrolment. Many of the students of the department got progression to higher studies and some of them got placement in different jobs in recent years.
