Chemistry department was established in July 1969 with the inauguration of the Science stream. Sri. Nirmalendu Bikash Sutradhar assumed the role of the inaugural department Head. Mr. Sutradhar, along with Mr. Girish Chandra Mishra, stands as one of the founding lecturers of the department. Presently, the department comprises 07 (seven) sanctioned positions, all of which are occupied by individuals appointed by the Assam Government. Additionally, the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) has appointed 02 (two) lecturers on a contractual basis. The faculty comprises highly qualified and motivated individuals, with several actively engaged in research pursuits. Reflecting the department's ethos, the non-academic staff demonstrates diligence, helpfulness, and dedication to their roles.
Given the centrality of Chemistry to both physical and biological sciences, the subject inherently provides extensive opportunities for graduates within the discipline. The structured and analytical mind-set fostered through the study of Chemistry equips graduates with the capabilities to excel across a broad spectrum of fields. Presently, the department offers a Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP). The curriculum is comprehensive, encompassing core courses in organic, inorganic, and physical chemistry, along with a selection of generic elective courses and skill enhancement modules. Moreover, the department boasts well-equipped laboratory facilities, ensuring students have access to practical training and hands-on experience essential for their academic and professional development.
Furthermore, the department is equipped with the necessary number of instruments, facilitating students in conducting experiments outlined in the updated syllabus, as well as engaging in simple projects. There are well-stocked stores for apparatus and chemicals, ensuring uninterrupted practical sessions. The Department Library supplements its resources with a substantial collection of chemistry books, complementing the extensive selection in the college's main library.

To ensure effective teaching and enhance student comprehension, faculty members employ various methods and tools:
